No details of their discussions were immediately available, but the Youth Congress has pushed for their spiritual leader to reconsider his “middle way” policy of nonviolence for achieving genuine autonomy within China.

The meeting lasted half an hour.

Younger followers of the Dalai Lama, including members of the Youth Congress, are pushing for full independence from China.

The meeting comes a day after the Dalai Lama said he would resign as leader of the government-in-exile if violence persists in Tibet. He would remain as the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhists, he told reporters.

His remarks came after Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao blamed supporters of the Dalai Lama for violence in Tibet, saying it “was organized, premeditated, masterminded and incited by the Dalai clique.”
